Pacific Standard Time LA/LA, part 1

October 2017
Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA is a collaborative effort by arts institutions across Southern California. Running through January 2018, it is the second iteration of PST.
This album covers the first four exhibitions I visited.
- Museum of Latin American Art – Relational Undercurrents: Contemporary Art of the Caribbean Archipelago
- Luckman Gallery, CalStateLA – How To Read El Pato Pascual
- The Hammer Museum – Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985
- The Skirball Museum – Another Promised Land…Anita Brenner’s Mexico. Fantastic exhibition; unfortunately, no photography allowed. I’ll definitely be going back. Highly recommended!
Plus Ken Gonzales-Day…Surface Tension: Murals, Signs, and Mark-Making in LA.

Sketchbook – Another Promised Land
Of the 32 PST LA/LA exhibitions I visited, only this fantastic show at The Skirball had a no photography policy. They have a wonderful catalog, which I bought for Elissa, but I wanted something from my personal experience to put on the web site. I decided to go back and try to make a few sketches.
At an art supply store I bought an 8×10 Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Paper sketchbook…a little pricey but sweet. The cover had the feel of fine leather. Sensual. At Staples I got some extra thick #2 pencils and some colored pencils. Then I headed back to the museum.
It was only when I got to the Brenner show and pulled out my supplies that I remembered I can’t draw.
Oh well. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
